Spain 1S not eager to enlarge the EU to include Scandinavia or Central Europe, which it sees: as a threat to its ownl position within the Union. Elsewhere, Spain has sponsored an Ibero-American Community ofNations (a Hispanic Commonwealth), which held its third summit meeting in Brazil inJuly 1993. Anxious to establish itself as a major international player, Spain has contributed troops to the UNpeace-keeping force in the former Yugoslavia, and aspires to aseat on the UN Security Council.
